After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art with an Honours Diploma, John worked for several years as an actor, in weekly and fortnightly repertory theatre, culminating with a year at the RSC

for the ‘Wars of the Roses’ . Then came seven years with BBC Television, London, in the Single Plays Department, covering all aspects of television drama, as Floor Manager, Location Manager, Production Manager, and First Assistant Director, on multi-camera dramas (studio and OB) and 16mm films on location. He then attended the three month BBC Directors Course, after which he became a free-lance Film and Television Director.
